John Allen, owner and operator of YBWP has been in the landscape and horticulture industry for over 40 years. His passion and expertise are unmatched. The connections he has in the industry keep him abreast of new plant introductions, updated proven planting practices and other horticultural developments.
John Allen has an extensive resume. During the 1980s, he was the Chief Horticulturalist of the Horticulture Center, Japanese House and Garden, and the Centennial Arboretum working for the City of Philadelphia, Fairmount Park Commission. He oversaw the building of a brand new 20,000-square-foot greenhouse range and the selection of plant material for installed garden beds in the greenhouse. John Allen also managed the growing of plant material for Fairmount Park’s display in the Philadelphia Flower Show and the growing of seasonal and annual plants for planting in the parks and squares throughout the Philadelphia region.
Additionally, John Allen has held numerous positions on boards including, The International Society of Arboriculture, Penn-Del Chapter and served as a judge for entries at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Annual Autumn Harvest Show.
He returned to the private sector, launching You Buy We Plant in 2012. YBWP has worked with homeowners, designing a wide variety of gardens including butterfly gardens, moss and fern gardens, cut flower gardens, raised vegetable gardens, combination evergreen privacy hedges with foreground flower displays, and the list goes on.
